Description
Offered is an original 1947 annual guide to the season for the Nantucket Island Straight Wharf Theatre. Illustrated printed wrappers, 6" x 9", 24 pp. It contains announcements for the summer stock plays that would be put on that season ("The Streets of New York", "Sconset Heyday", "O Smothering Sea", "Moby Dick" and other attractions. Also filled with advertisements for local hotels, businesses, restaurants, shops, etc. Laid in was a 22" x17" folding map of Nanutcket Island with detail of the downtown. The guide book has some minor faults to the front cover, interior clean and complete; the map has some light red pencil notations apparently by a tourist about places they had walked. The Straight Wharf Theatre opened in 1940 (the Fawcett Players, a professional acting group who had been in existence since the 1920s moved there from another Nantucket location. In the 1950s the Fawcett Players became The Theater Workshop of Nantucket and the Straight Wharf Theatre was a significant summer stock location as well as a training ground for actors and the Workshop during the winter months. The theater itself was destroyed by fire in 1975. SEE THE SCANS AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE CONTINUING. Thanks for viewing!
