4401-0012 Granite Surface Plate, Grade B, Ledge 0, 18" X 12" X 3"
The top surface of this plate is precision ground to achieve a high degree of flatness and the accuracy is 0001". It is a Grade B (Grade 1) plate.
Granite surface plates meet or exceed Federal Specifications GGG-P-463C and it includes a certificate of inspection. (Note that these are not NIST traceable.)
Granite plates are used for measuring the flatness and squareness of other objects, laying out parts, calibrating instruments, setting up tools, checking parallelism and perpendicularity, and measuring heights with the use of a height gage.
They are also used as a work surface for assembling, inspecting, and marking parts. Non-magnetic and non-conductive. Harder than steel and does not nick or burr.
Surface plates are offered by HHIP in various sizes, with different levels of flatness and accuracy and are checked by an auto collimator for overall accuracy assurance.

Our surface plates are solid, flat plates used as the main horizontal reference plane for precision inspection, marking out (layout), and tooling setup. The surface plate is often used as the baseline for all measurements to a workpiece, therefore the primary surface is finished extremely flat.
We offer both A & B grade plates. While workshop grade is the least accurate, the plates are held to a high degree of flatness. Surface plates must be calibrated regularly.
Black granite surface plates are more wear-resistant because they are made of quartz-bearing granite.
Granite is inherently stable, non-magnetic, has excellent vibration damping characteristics, and will not rust.
Can be used with HHIP accessories such as squares, gauge blocks, sine bars, sine plates, dial indicators, parallels, angle plates, height gauges, etc.
