The Wounded Knee Massacre occurred on December 29, 1890, on the Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
In 1973, an uprising of  armed American Indians occupied and reclaimed the territory, which they legally owned, in the name of the Lakota Nation with several demands. Among these issues were, police brutality, high unemployment rates, and the Federal Government's policies concerning American Indians
This conflict would begin on February 27, 1973 and last seventy-one days. The occupation became known in history as the Siege at Wounded Knee.
