Examples of common gastropods include all varieties of snails, abalone, limpets,as well as land and sea slugs.Cassiopidae is an extinct family of sea snails,a marine gastropod mollusca.Gastropods first appeared in the fossil record during the early Cambrian period, approximately 550 million years ago and these fossils are from the cretaceous period about 100 million years ago and come from the Atlas mountains in northern Africa. These fossils are just as they came out of the ground and have not been scrubbed or polished hence the white clay like coating.
Each winner will receive 1/2 pound of fossils scooped from material as pictured with size running approximately 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches long and wide by 1/4 to 3/4 inch deep and lots generally containing 20 to 40 pieces. As with all mine rough material some pieces may have matrix rock attached and other pieces may be only a portion of a complete fossil but most are nice specimens needing a wash only and when polished these are quite stunning fossils.
