Here is a very cool fossil gastropod, a Steinkern (empty fossil shell)  of Viviparus, a snail from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years.
The specimen is just under an inch. The plate it was naturally found on is about 2.4" by 2" (varies).  No paint or restoration has been added.

In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact specimen on the COA itself,  is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  100% of our COA’s include a photo of the exact item you purchased, right on the COA itself, so it can’t ever be placed with a wrong item.
We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
