GRANITE Metrology Surface Plate or Optical/Machine Base TABLE TOP Charcoal Grey 48"x72"x12"

(Courtesy of Newport) Granite is natural rock that is commonly used for equipment platforms, bridges and gantries. While granite does not offer the lightweight rigidity of honeycomb structures, it is highly useful for applications requiring large inertial masses or an excellent polished finish. Granite is also three times lighter than cast iron, non-magnetic, non-conductive, non-corrosive and not susceptible to acids (except hydrofluoric). Since granite is easily ground and has been naturally stress relieved over millions of years.
This metrology surface plate is a nice big charcoal grey granite optical flat machine base, measuring 48"x72"x12". We think this slab was manufactured by Newport, but it doesn't have any markings other than the part number on the side and we aren't absolutely sure.
Condition:
Excellent condition. Four holes drilled in the surface, as shown in pictures.
Ships from the desert southwest and may arrive dusty.
