    Description

Presented is a vintage Navajo Native American Medicine Plant Chart that is still in its original shrink wrap never having been opened.
The Navajo artist who assembled this representational medicine chart was Arletta Henderson. It was sold back in the 1950's to the 1960's at Fred Harvey stores in the American southwest.
An assortment of twelve traditional herbs, emetics, tonics, and berries plus 1 beaded medicine bag representation are contained within this chart. A Navajo Medicine Man traditionally gathers the emetics and herbs. Prayers are said during the gatherings to insure healing powers of each one. These plants play a vital role in the traditional Navajo Healing Culture.
The plants range from juniper to bracken, rabbit brush to snakeweed, cliff rose to bee plant. Navajo medicinal use was for healing headaches, stomach aches, fever, insect bites, and sore throats, just to name a few. Each of the 12 medical plants has its own identification tab telling its use. This is a fascinating collection of Native American Medicinal history.
Condition is MINT  with all plants framed in oak under glass and then covered with original plastic wrap. Over time and movement a few tiny plant elements and a few beads have dislodged from the medicine bag piece. This does not in any way compromise the items value. The original price tag is on the backside.
The piece is 13" High x 16" Wide.
