    This fossil murex shell is from from the Pliocene period, part of the Caloosahatchee Formation.   It was collected at the bottom of the Newburn APAC Pit, Sarasota, Fl.  It is now closed to the general public like most fossil shell pits in Florida.
    You get the exact specimen shown in the photos above.  The
    Murex brevifrons
    is 5.3 cm long.
