Description
Moving between continents one realises the amount of stuff collected over a lifetime. I really need to lighten the load, while I may part with the objects, the memories of many happy hours spent collecting them will remain forever. All listed gastropods and bivalves from the late Pliocene Red Crag were
collected over a decade ago during a single visit to the classic site of Walton-on-the-Naze on a very cold winter day, when a fresh slumpa
ge produced
exceptionally good conditions. Since then new sea defences have been built which reduced erosion to a minimum, there is now very little new material
.
Neptunea angulata (formerly Neptunea contraria) is the most characteristic fossil of the Red Crag, with its aperture on the left, contrary to most other gastropod species. Four individuals ranging from 38mm to 71mm.
