    RARE Fossil Extinct Shell

    Ampullina amphora

    from Florida
    This fossil, shallow water shell is from from the Miocene period, part of the Tampa Formation.   Most Miocene shells are
    moldic
    .  There is some calcification and small Calcite crystals with this specimen.  It was collected at the remains of the Sixmile Creek outcrop, Tampa, Fl.   It is now closed to the general public like most fossil shell pits in Florida.
