    Description

    Royal Exchange Bombed During 1940
    Crown Ducal, Florentine
    Plate
    Measures 8 1/4 inches Square
This is what I have been able to find. (And I'm hoping it's right) This square ivory plate with a stencil of the Royal Exchange printed in golden brown, has the notation that it was bombed during 1940. Which was the blitz of London. This dates the plate to not too distant a past but certainly a historical event. This Plate was part of a Series of Bombed London Scenes, Examples include: All Hallows Barking, Dr Johnsons House, Guildhall, Parliament, St Pauls and of course the Royal Exchange.  It's marked Crown Ducal, Florentine and Made in England. Crown Ducal is the Shape of the plate and Florentine is the embossed pattern of fruits, flowers and leaves with gold edge and shoulder line and it was introduced around 1930/31.  The plate was made by A.G. Richardson & Co. LTD of Tunstaff & Ferrybridge, Staffordshire, England. This trademark was in use from 1916 until 1972.
CONDITION: you can see two cracks on the back (see the last set of pictures) So this should before display only. It has some gold loss to the trim.  There are no chips.
