Southern Desk company Hickory North Carolina Sample case

This is a fabulous piece of history from the North Carolina furniture trade. This lovely wooden box is a salesmen's sample box for the Southern desk company of Hickory North Carolina, Catawba County. The company made office furniture and school house furniture at least as early as the 1920's continuing for decades.
It is complete with all of the samples. There are 37 samples in total. Great study in wood finishes. The box measures 19 x 10 x 9 1/4 inches.
Overall the condition is good, there is some wear to the box finish and edges and corners, it was toted around to meetings. There is fraying to the edges of the paper sample sheet on the inside of the box lid, but overall it is very good condition for its age. There are handwritten notes on the sample list inside the lid noting that some were discontinued in 1960. This is a truly unique historical item and a great conversation piece.
